As political associates of Dr.Peter Odili, former Governor of Rivers State celebrates his 74th birthday anniversary today, Monday, 15 August, 2022 at his Forces Avenue residence in Port Harcourt, Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh, who served in the administration of the former governor in different capacities, has described Dr. Peter Odili as a political colosus that would continually be celebrated because of the amazing experience of working with him.

Speaking with newsmen, Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh said:

” I am happy that many people remember that August 15, is Dr. Peter Odili’s birthday anniversary. A group of us have since sent out congratulatory messages on National Dailies to appreciate the man that all of us have come to regard as a father figure in Rivers state, and who has continued to provide leadership for the political class and Rivers State in general.

“We thank God for keeping him healthy to celebrate his 74th birthday. I started as senior special assistant to the Governor on media, special duties and strategy.

“Thereafter, I became commissioner for special duties, media and strategy. Then became commissioner for commerce and industry for a short while, before he moved me to the ministry of transport and aviation.

” I am grateful to God for the opportunity given to me to encounter such an amazing leader for the impressive eight years that I worked with him.

“I can tell you without fear of contradiction that there has been non like him, and after him. What we learnt under Odili is not quantifiable, as if you are if you are not trained, you can get trained under Odili. If you are trained, you can get super training under Odili.

” Today, as we celebrate the 74th birthday anniversary of this great leader of our time, we reminiscent on the days of Odili as Governor, indeed the Golden Governor of Nigeria. And I was specially previleged to be part of that important episode of his being crowned the Golden Governor of Nigeria, being in charge of media and strategy at that time.

“I recall that Prof. Jerry Gana was the Minister of Information: so he came into Port Harcourt with a retinue of journalists to look at what can qualify Dr. Peter Odili as Golden Governor, just as they went to other 36 states of the federation, including the FCT, Abuja.

“And they found him worthy of that very important award, and so we are grateful to God. We thank God also that Odili is strong, healthy and living to clock 74, and all of us, his political children are available to be part of this celebration.

“Infact, Odili is like a school: I can recall that when Omehia became Governor: one of the things he set out to do was to establish an institute he called Odili School of Politics. It was to be located around where you have the Greater Port Harcourt today. But his government was short lived. He could not achieve that but we still need a school of politics to train future political leaders. In that same spirit, I suggest we still establish that institute and name ii ‘ Peter Odili Institute of Political Studies’.

“Some of us worked with Governor Odili at the most critical period when the opposition was very deadly; when the Mafia’s were ravaging the state. However, with commitment and dedication we triumphed.

‘It is easy to identify Odili’s political students by their performances. I think we cannot thank God enough.I also thank his wife and children for their support, and I believe that we shall continue to celebrate this political colosus as long as all of us are alive”, Glory Emeh, a consultant in Politics and Governance concluded.

ASUU: Atiku dishonest, Sowore group knocks ex-VP

The campaign organisation for the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has knocked the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, over his comments on the strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Atiku had, on Friday, at a youth programme to commemorate the International Youth Day 2022, stated that he took an exception to the ongoing ASUU strike, condemning the inability of the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government to resolve the lingering strike, which is in its sixth month since February 14, 2022. He noted that it would never happen under his administration or a Peoples Democratic Party government.

Atiku, in the video posted via his verified Twitter handle, @atiku, on Friday, said, “I take very strong exception to the strike by ASUU and the government’s inability to resolve the crisis. It will never happen under a PDP government or under my administration.

Atiku noted that he had “been investing in education for the past 30 years,” from Primary to Secondary and to tertiary education, noting that “we have never gone on strike for even one day.”

“I pledge I will work with university authorities to end these incessant strikes that are causing unacceptable harm to the ability of our children to get an education.

“I believe the PDP provides the best platform for you to actualise your individual, collective aspirations, Atiku said.

Reacting in a statement late Saturday, signed by the Spokesperson for Sowore 2023 Presidential Campaign organisation, Onyinye-Gandhi Chukwunyere, the organisation noted that Atiku’s claim that such ASUU strike would never happen under his administration or a PDP government was a “reflection of Atiku’s dishonesty with the Nigerian people.”

The group stated that education was grossly underfunded under the PDP government where Atiku was Vice President.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Employemnt and Labour, Festus Keyamo, SAN, had rather said, August 5, that parents and guardians should beg ASUU to call off the the strike as the government was not ready to borrow.

Why Wamakko, not Tambuwal launched Wike’s project – Group

A group, Arewa Paradigm Shift, has explained why the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, ignored his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Tambuwal, to invite an All Progressives Congress founding father, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, to inaugurate a project in the state, early August.

The group’s Director of Mobilisation, Alhaji Adamu Musa-Illela, in a statement in Kaduna on Saturday, explained that “Wike knows that Wamakko, being the ‘godfather’ of the North-West APC, is a more influential political figure in the North than the Sokoto state’s helmsman (Tambuwal).”

The former Sokoto State governor (Wamakko) inaugurated the Ogbum-Nu-Abali Eastern Bypass road on the invitation of Governor Wike

The group noted that in a move that took pundits by surprise, Wike chose Wamakko, snubbing Tambuwal – who is  a fellow party member and agelong associate prior to the PDP presidential primary.

“Governor Wike sent a formal letter of invitation to this godfather of Sokoto politics because the Rivers helmsman knows those that matter the most politically in the North today. Wamako is a tactician that helped Buhari win the North-West in 2015 and 2019,” they noted.

The statement also noted that Wike had also declared  that his performance in office was a reflection of personal capacity and passion to deliver enduring development to Rivers State people rather than affiliation to the Peoples Democratic Party.

“To be politically relevant in the North-West today, political heavyweights like Wamako are necessary alliance partners for victory,” the group declared.

FG must stop borrowing for consumption – Obi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said the Federal Government must stop borrowing for consumption.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, the former governor of Anambra State lamented that states that received bailouts failed to repay the loans.

He, however, advised that federal borrowings should be restricted to the statutory five per cent of the previous year’s revenue.

He wrote, “As a matter of urgency, Nigeria must stop borrowing for consumption, but only borrow to invest in regenerative development projects and other productive ventures.

“It’s ironic that states that received fiscal bailouts did not repay the loans and are still borrowing beyond their revenue earnings.

“Also, it has become imperative to restrict federal borrowings to the statutory five per cent of the previous year’s revenue.”

A few days ago, the presidential candidate blamed the instability of the naira on “distortions in the economy and fiscal policies,” adding that “the plummeting exchange rate is worrisome.”

“The Fiscal Managers should come up with a policy line or modality for arresting the value drift and restoring confidence in the National currency. Also, denominating domestic transactions and contracts in foreign currency should be stopped forthwith,” he added.

Also on Thursday, said when made productive, Nigerian youths will change the country and restore its squandered glory.

Obi said that himself and his running mate, Senator Yusuf Baba-Ahmad, are in the presidential race for the youth of Nigeria who have been ignored and neglected over time to the detriment of the society.

Obi told thousands of jubilant youth support groups at a summit at International Conference Centre, Abuja on Thursday that every part of Nigeria including Sambisa forest is virgin agricultural land waiting to be harnessed.

Ikonne, Ikpeazu’s Aide Fight to Finish over Radio Station

The Federal Government has cleared the air over the ‘Enyimba FM Aba’ radio license dispute between Chief Paul Ikonne, the son of a prominent monarch in Aba, HRM Eze Isaac Ikonne; and Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu’s aide and close ally, Enyinnaya Apollos.

This is as the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, through Trademarks Registry, has officially notified the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), that ‘Enyimba Fm Aba’ was legally registered by Rethink Media Network Ltd owned by Apollos for its radio station operation in Aba.

Trademarks Registry, however notified NBC that the license “is illegally being used by EMPAU Communication Ltd,” owned by Ikonne who is the immediate-past Executive Secretary of National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), and a chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC).

According to a letter by Trademarks Registry dated 25th July 2022, signed by Ogunbanjo A.T, and addressed to the Director General of NBC, the regulatory body had in an earlier letter dated 15th July 2022, sought the Trademarks Registry’s clarifications on why two different companies should be licensed to use the name ‘Enyimba Fm Aba’, for commercial radio station operation in the same city and State.

Responding to NBC inquiries, the Trademarks Registry said license to operate with the name was first issued to Apollos’ Rethink Media Network.

It read:”Referring to your letter dated July 15, 2022, on the above-stated matter (Use of “Enyimba FM as Trademark by Two Different Companies Licensed by the Commission), I am directed to inform you that investigation in this office has revealed that the application “ENYIMBA FM” by RETHINK MEDIA NETWORK LTD was first in time and was issued an approval based on a consent letter from Abia State Government through the State Ministry of Information.

“ENYIMBA FM” by EMPAU Communication Ltd was approved in error on the basis of a letter from Aba North Local Government, instead of Abia State Government which has the appropriate authority.

“Consequently, a letter of withdrawal of application of ENYIMBA FM has been dispatched to notify EMPAU Communication Ltd of the withdrawal of the acceptance letter earlier granted in error.”

Trademarks Registry in another letter to EMPAU communication Ltd entitled: “Withdrawal of Trademark Application number NG/TM/O/2022/60226 ENYIMBA FM” reads: “I am directed to inform you of the withdrawal of your trademark application ENYIMBA FM NG/TM/O/2022/60226 in class 38.

“The application was erroneously approved as it conflicts with ENYIMBA FM NG/TM/O/2021/44711 dated 26/10/2021.

“Consequently, the approval letter issued to you in respect of the application NG/TM/O/2022/60226 is hereby withdrawn and invalidated.”

Giving insight on what happened, the Head, Public Relations, Rethink Media Network Ltd, Mr. Chigozie Joshua, explained that after the company’s application for a radio license was approved by the NBC, the Company on September 2021, approached the Abia State Government through the Ministry of Information, with an application for consent to use the name ENYIMBA FM for registration and establishment of a radio station in Aba as required by Trademarks Registry laws and guidelines, given that ENYIMBA is classified as a ‘Geographical Area’.

He further noted that approval was granted by the State Ministry of Information in September 2021, while the Trademarks Registry in October 2021, granted and approved the application of Rethink Media Network Ltd to use ENYIMBA FM in classes 38 and 41, respectively, for its radio stations operation in Aba.

Joshua further revealed that in February 2022, after the allocation of 93.5 FM frequency by NBC, the outfit unveiled the station’s name and logo as “93.5 Enyimba Fm” with its slogan as “… the peoples’ radio”, and also laid the foundation for the ultramodern radio station in Aba.

Meanwhile, further investigation revealed that EMPAU Communication Ltd claimed that it got approval from the Trademark Registry on the 17 of March 2022, with a consent letter from the chairman of Aba North Local Government Area Council on the 21 of March 2022, five days after the alleged approval by trademark.

Bond Ohuche Campaign Organisation Condemns Assassination Attempt on Comrade Chinedu Ihedoro, AAC House of Assembly Candidate for Umuahia Central State Constituency

Bond Ohuche Campaign Organisation Condemns Assassination Attempt on Comrade Chinedu Ihedoro, AAC House of Assembly Candidate for Umuahia Central State Constituency

We have received with shock, news of the attempt to assassinate Comrade Chinedu Ihedoro, the African Action Congress, House of Assembly Candidate in Umuahia Central Constituency, Abia State.

Comrade Ihedoro was attacked on the 3rd of August 2022 at about 10:00pm while trying to drive in to his compound at Road 11 Low Cost housing estate, Umuahia.

We want to assure the general public, our party members and the teaming supporters of Bond Ohuche Campaign Organisation and AAC in Abia State and beyond that Hon. Chinedu Ihedoro is in a stable condition and in high spirit.

We find the attempt on Comrade Chinedu Ihedoro, popularly called King Soco, by his teeming supporters and admirers, as not only heinous, barbaric, reprehensible and a crude recourse to the reigning political paradigm in Abia state, which AAC and our governorship candidate, Chief Bond Ohuche has vowed to purge.

We are shocked that at this time that Nigerian politics has gradually embraced the idea of politics as an arena for the contestation of ideas, programs and robust debates, some stone age political urchins are still bent on dominating the state through the barrel of the gun.

We pity these relics of the past, who blinded by their gargantuan loot, are blinded to the fact that Abia is fast changing. The docility of the past has given way to a librated and focused electorate of the present, who are poised with their PVC to take back control of our dear state through the AAC.

While we challenge the Abia state Police Command, to urgently unravel the masterminds of this sordid event, we wish to reassure our teeming supporters in Abia state, that it will take more than assassination attempts to stop us from actualizing our historic date with destiny. We will not relent until Abia is librated.
