Obi Cubana, Mr Ibu, UAE envoy honoured at Nollywood New Yam Festival

Businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu, also known as Obi Cubana and John Okafor also known as Mr Ibu, were honoured with traditional titles at the 2021 Nollywood New Yam Festival.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that also honoured is Dr Fahad Al Taffaq, the Ambassador of United Arab Emirate to Nigeria.

NAN reports that the event is an annual fiesta, which showcases Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.

The event was organised by the former Chairman of Actors Guild of Nigeria, Abuja, Mr Onwurah Ifeanyi, also known as ‘Agility’.

“This is a festival that Nollywood stakeholders put in place to always remind them of their roots and culture.

“In the time past, we were forgetting our roots, but now we are trying to see what we can do every year to bring people back.

“I used the festival to be a pointer to other African cultures. You can see people dress in Edo, Calabar, Yoruba, Hausa and other attire to attend. So that is the pointer.

“Aside from the celebration, we are awarding a lot of people. The award became necessary because so many people have helped Nollywood and humanity.

“So, from time to time, we award these people, because, when you praise somebody that did something well, it would encourage the person to do more, and that is why today we are awarding these people,” Ifeanyi said.

Also, Mr Emeka Rollas, the National President of Actors Guild of Nigeria said the New Yam Festival to an Igbo man was a celebration of a good harvest of yam annually.

“It is believed that when you do not celebrate the harvest of yam in a year, that the next year’s harvest may not be fruitful.

“That is why it is very imperative as Nollywood has become the most important export of Nigeria as far as culture is concerned.

“That is why every year, we gather here in the celebration of the yam as a symbol of unity for Nigeria and the Igbo man.

NAN reports that while Obi Cubana got the title of Ifeomaolibo, because now he has trained, sponsored and supported a lot of youths to become self-independent, Okafor got Aki Ogbocioma, because of his positive impact in the industry.

Taffaq also got the award of Ugocinba, meaning, an eagle from a foreign land which is well cherished.

Others that got awards include Francis Duru, Alhaji Abunakar Maikano, the Sapayi of Garki, Abuja and many others.

Meanwhile, Bishop Oguba Owuocho John, the Secretary of the West Africa College of Bishops said African cultures should not be allowed to die, adding that there is a need to differentiate between sacrifice and culture.

“Today we are talking about a culture that does not involve sacrifice. This New Yam Festival is a point of contact where people interact with themselves, where some helpers locate people that they suppose to render help to.

Taffaq who received the award of Ugocinba said he was grateful for the honour.

“This event is one that will bring a lot of prosperity, support to the actors and the creative industry in Nigeria and of course it is going to be an important aspect of Nigeria.

“We at the UAE Embassy have been partnering with the Nigerian Government and the leaders in the country’s creative industry.

“In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, we organised the UAE-Nigeria Culture and Art Football in Lagos. It was well attended and a huge success,” Fahad said.

Another Awardee, Okafor lauded the organiser and appreciated the award.

NAN reports that the event attracted the big names in the entertainment industry, traditional institutions, the Ministry of Information and Culture and other relevant stakeholders.

High points of the event were the dance performances by the Gbayi and Ogene Dance Troupes, and the award of the titles and certificates to the awardees.

Leaked tape: Tiwa’s sex without condom sends wrong message, says Ogiri

Actress Sonia Ogiri is one female that has been very vocal about the sex tape of Tiwa Savage that went viral on social media platforms some weeks ago.

Her frequent posts had also made some netizens opine that her opinions are borne out of “jealousy or hatred” for the award-winning singer.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, Ogiri, however, maintained her stand.

She said, “Yes, I have been vocal about Tiwa’s sex tape, it’s so unfortunate. For me, the news did not sit well, and that was why I spoke out. I must not have millions of followers, and must not be the most popular person in Nigeria for me to make my point. It is my point, my observation, and my opinion. I am part of the public; to begin with, forget about the whole social media presence or celebrity world. We’re all part of the general public.  She brought it out, it came to my hearing, and I contributed my quota. It’s my right, and no one can take it from me. I don’t care how other people see it, I don’t care how people want to garnish it, I don’t care about the people standing with or against her. I am not for once standing against her, I just aired my opinion about the sex tape, and it should not even have happened. She should be more aware of these things. People make mistakes and we learn from people’s mistakes, she has seen other celebrities’ sex tapes get leaked, so she should be smarter at this age. To me, age should come with some sense of belonging, responsibility, and wisdom. So, I expected her to be wiser than that sex tape.

“It truly beats my imagination, and it’s devastating, especially in Nigeria, to know that a mature celebrity would have a sex tape at this age, time, and era. It’s a big error, and it’s a no for me. Tiwa or any other celebrity should abstain, they should desist from this. If it is your fantasy, handle it differently. If it is your fantasy to have a sex tape, you can do that and delete immediately or save it to a hidden file where you know that the mistake of leaking the tape would never occur. Keep it off the general public, because it’s really unfortunate. Tiwa should be held responsible but she hasn’t apologised, she needs to apologise. She owes Nigerians a big apology. Yes, I hold her responsible, and everybody else should hold her responsible for that. And the reason I said that is because she is big enough.”

Ogiri, who further said that she had analysed the short clip thoroughly, also noted that Savage, was having unprotected intercourse.

She continued “Let’s analyse this, you’re having sex with someone and the person held his phone, that should tell you that something was going on, he should be holding onto something or holding onto you or touching something, but he held his phone and you were busy moaning and enjoying the moment. He was busy videoing you up to your face, showing everything that represents her as a woman. To even add salt to injury, she did what she did without a condom, what message is she passing to society? Apart from that, the sex tape of people that I have seen is always well organised, you see them in a proper arrangement on a well-made bed, lost in the mood with rose flowers or bottles of wine in the room. For a woman of that magnitude, status, level, age, and exposure, you can imagine how bitter this whole thing is; it’s so disgusting and disrespectful to her.”

The mother of one also noted that even though she is in love with someone, she dates responsibly and also controls her fantasy. Ogiri said, “Of course I am in love with someone and I am in a relationship. If you’re in love or in a relationship and both of you love each other, there is no limit to what you can do, but since there is no limit to what you can do, you have to do it wisely. I cannot control anybody’s fantasy or teach them how to fantasise, but whatever fantasy you’re having with your partner should be between just both of you; do not bring it to the general public, don’t come and disturb us with it.  When you bring it out there you would get different opinions, either good or bad.

“I would never have a sex tape, except it was done without my knowledge, but I am very smart to check around. I am not even in that situation because I date extremely responsible people. I don’t do ‘runs’, I do relationships. My relationships are extremely responsible and my partners’ social lives are paramount to them. They would never want to put such a thing out there, and I also would never want to put such things out there too; we respect each other’s privacy and they’re not social media intoxicated. They’re not small boys that would be triggered to do such thing for whatever reason, because I am very careful, I find myself around very more careful people too.”

I discovered my husband was cheating when I went into trance -Ex-BBNaija Tega

Former Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye housemate, Tega Dominic, has alleged that her husband cheated on her by bringing his lover to their home.

She alleged that she got to know when she interacted with some neighbours.

She made this known in a recent interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, on his show, WithChude, where she spoke about her marriage and BBNaija.

When asked if her husband cheated on her, Tega stated that she got to know “spiritually” before finding out from the neighbours.

Tega said, “Well, I got to know that he cheated and took someone home. I am deep – spiritually. How I go to know was that one day, I was in class and it was something like a trance. I saw him driving, and a babe was in front.

“And I’m like, ‘What’s this? What’s going on?’ I saw it like twice. So, I called my sister and I asked her what was going on and she denied it. I said, ‘Okay no problem.’

“I relate with the guys in my street a lot. So, I called one of them and I also did some FBI stuff. And then, he came up with ‘Okay, he’s always bringing this babe to the house.’

“My sister was at home, my kid was at home, your brother was at home, and you brought this girl to the house. That was the height of disrespect for me. It was not like I didn’t know he was doing stuff outside. But then, bringing this girl home was just it for me.

“Then we talked about it and he was so defensive. What really broke me was that he said, ‘You went to Lagos to be with a man, that’s why I did all of this.’

“When Big Brother came, I was like, ‘Okay, this is going to fly’. And then my mum spoke to me that I should not do it but I spoke to him and told him, this is what I wanted to do.’”

While Tega was on the BBNaija show, her husband, in a now-deleted post, had confessed to cheating on his wife, stating that the act broke his marriage.

This came even as Tega was being trolled on the internet for engaging in erotic activities with a former housemate of the show, Boma.

All eyes on Whitemoney, Liquorose to win BBNaija’s N90m

As the finale of the ongoing Big Brother Naija ‘Shine Ya Eye’ holds today, celebrities and fans have continued to drum up support for their favourite housemates. Going by social media posts, it seems the top spot will be keenly contested by Whitemoney and Liquorose. Other finalists on the sixth edition of the popular reality TV show are Pere, Cross, Angel and Emmanuel.

Whitemoney caught the interest of many Nigerians from his first week in the Big Brother House because of his consistent cooking for housemates. At a point, the hairstylist and entrepreneur was caught in a brawl with a fellow housemate, Pere, during the latter’s tenure as Head of House. Pere had stated that Whitemoney should stop cooking for the housemates and all the housemates should be involved in preparing food. However, Pere’s perceived humiliation of Whitemoney invariably earned the latter more fans as viewers felt he was a gentleman for not reacting negatively, despite Pere’s repeated acts of aggression.

Celebrities supporting him include Yul Edochie, Fred Amata, Destiny Etiko, Tunde Ednut, Broda Shaggi, Cubana Chief Priest; and evicted housemates such as Queen, Saga, Nini and Yousef.

The other major contender, Liquorose, has also garnered support from several celebrities and fans alike.

Liquorose, who is a popular dancer and had featured in several music videos before going into the Big Brother House has also got support from Teniola Apata, Funke Akindele and Bolanle Ninalowo.

As it stands, many are waiting with bated breaths to see who would be the last man (or woman) standing on the show later tonight.

The eventual winner will go home with a cash prize of N30m, cash in an Abeg digital wallet, bitcoins courtesy of Patricia, a two-bedroom apartment from RevolutionPlus Property, SUV from Innoson Motors and a trip for two packaged by TravelBeta.

Stop running and face consequences of your actions, Tonto Dikeh slams ex-lover Kpokpogri

Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, has asked her former lover, known as Prince Kpokpogri, to stop running and face the consequences of his actions.

She said this on Thursday via her verified Instagram page as she shared a video showing some leaked voice note between her ex-lover and another woman.

Last week, the break-up drama between the duo got messier as Kpokpogri denied that he hasn’t been picked by any security agency.

This happened after it was rumoured that the actress petitioned the police to investigate her ex-lover.

In her latest post, the actress revealed the real name of her lover and called him to face the consequences of his actions.

She wrote, “After listening to these leaked voice note between Joseph Egbri (fake name Prince kpokpogri) and Merit, I personally called my relationship off with a man I honestly did love.

“Now this is not enough for blackmail and lies but it’s all good and great. Respectfully, all we are asking is come answer to the law for your illegal recording and release of my private moments (a crime) that happened months back before I actually respectfully ended this relationship, extortion(a crime), blackmail(a crime) amongst other things alleged about you.

“This may be a good time to say @janemena this man has so much of your sex tapes with him in his possession(old and very recent).

“Not just you but a lot of other married women, celebrities and single girls too. If he hasn’t blackmailed any of you yet, it’s a matter of time!

“My darling Joseph Egbri, it will only be fair enough you allow the law operate. If these are made up allegations you need not fear, for a clean heart fear nothing.

“I’m not hurt, not mad, just done.I wish you would too. You can’t be the one blackmailing me, releasing my private chat with friends, bugging my phone and still be the one in trauma.

“Wish you all the very best. But you need to stop running and face the consequences of your actions.”

BBNaija S6: My biggest crime was to love you, Cross begs Angel

Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye housemate, Cross, has begged Angel to forgive him, stating that his biggest crime was to love her.

He said this on Sunday night, after the live eviction show, as the duo was in the red room with Pere.

Apparently, Cross had offended Angel and she had been giving him a silent treatment for some days, without telling him his offence.

In the Saturday night party, he had knelt down, asking Angel for forgiveness, but the latter refused to respond to him as she maintained her distance from him.

During the live eviction show, the host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, also asked Angel why Cross was kneeling down before her.

Angel said Cross offended her but she was not ready to tell him what he did.

After the show, Cross still approached Angel, begging for her forgiveness.

He said, “My heart is clean and my heart is pure. All I did was to love you, that’s my biggest crime. Just to love you, that’s all. And if that’s a crime, I’d rather be in jail forever. Yes, I’ll be in jail.”

Pere told Cross, “In this case, you’re not in jail, you’re in prison; maximum security. You’ll be the only one talking to yourself in this maximum prison security that you’ve found yourself.”

Cross said, “I’ll be there. If loving you is the biggest crime that I have ever committed, for you to restrict me from having a conversation with you, to have our relationship back on track, let me go to jail.”

All the while, Angel was in the room combing her hair and didn’t make any comment to either of the men.

Angel and Cross had called themselves bestfriends earlier last week and had shared more than a few kisses.

With Angel’s recent cold shoulder towards Cross, the latter is worried that he may lose his ‘friendship’ with Angel.
