One of the most amazing things happening in the southeast is the Center for Memories. @pokigbo (Patrick Okigbo) and co are doing a fantastic job of preserving memory. Remembering is surviving.

On friday, we reignited the spirit of Rangers of Enugu. We watched the premiere of a documentaty on Rangers International of Enugu at the Center for Memories in Enugu. It was such an inspiration as we reflected on how Igbos came back from the devastation of the civil war and became champions in many sectors. This comeback spirit is epitomized in the “Never Say Die” slogan of Rangers.

One of the issues raised at the screening is why is Igbo society of today so bereft of the values of hardwork, patriotism and sacrifice that characterized Igbos of the civil war and post civil war eras? The general consensus is that we cannot overcome the current challenges unless we are willing to recover the social capital of old igbo society and adapt them to today’s challenges. We have to recreate the nature of community relations that defined that igbo society. We have to reassert the importance of ‘amamaihe’ and ‘ezi aha’ to economic and social development.
