COVERGroup Lampoons Gov. Alex Otti Over Reckless Looting In Abia State.

A socio-cultural group, Abia Renaissance Forum (KA-ABIA-DI-NMA) has lampooned the Abia State governor, Alex Otti, over what it termed “financial recklessness” and ‘gtand looting” of Abia resources.

The group in a statement made available to Eastern Herald and signed by Dr. Ephraim Nwanmuo, bemoaned the betrayal of trust of Abians by the Alex Otti led government, the ruinous experience of the previous go ernments.

According to the group, “Abians had invested so much hope and trust in the Alex Otti led administration, after being serially betrayed for over 24 years by previous administrations”.

The group noted that Abia State earned N320bn from FAAC Allocation, IGR and other Capital Receipts in 2024. This figure excludes LGA earnings and borrowings.

However contrary to an extract of the report Governor Alex C. Otti published on the website of Abia State Government on January 28, 2025, for projects completed between OCTOBER 2024 and DECEMBER 2024 that he has paid for, there are no projects on ground to show for the huge amounts allegedly extended on the projects.

Key projects allegedly completed and paid for between October and December 2024 include:
1. Rehabilitation of Public Schools – N54.07bn
2. Purchase of land – N8.39bn
3. Purchase of land – N6.65bn (Jul 2024 to Dec 2024)
4. Rehabilitation of Hospitals and Health Centres – N20.31bn
5. Construction of Hospitals and Health Centres – N7.12bn
6. Purchase of Health Equipment – N2.045bn
7. Construction of Electricity – N2.87bn
8. Construction of Roads – N16.91bn
9. Rehabilitation of Roads – N2.67bn
10. Rehabilitation of Office Buildings – N2.27bn
11. Social Responsibility – N1.01bn

The group noted that over N14bn had been spent on rehabilitation of public schools as claimed by Gov. Otti before this N54bn, and yet no single school has beenrebuilt.

The group equally queried, Where are the hospitals? No hospital has been rebuilt; Where are the electricity projects? Where are the completed roads? Where are the ICT Centres?

Abia Renaissance Forum (KA-ABIA-DI-NMA) wondered whether Abia will survive this latest round of looting given what the state has experienced before, in the hands of unscrupulous leaders, who had no love for the state and it’s people.
