The new Rivers state police commissioner C.P Olugbenga Adepuju Adewole has vowed that his major priority is to ensure the safety of lives and property of port harcour residence.
C.P Olugbenga stated this in a media briefing with journalists in his office at the police command Headquaters, moscow road ,port harcourt.
According to C.P Adepuju, Rivers state is one of the economic hop in Nigeria ,that faces issues of kidnapping, cultism, landgrabing and other social vices, pointing out that to tackle the menace, it reguires pro- active approach, even as he posited that he would ensure the security for all in Rivers as people will sleep with their two eyes closed.
To achieve the target, the new C.P stressed the need for collaboration with the relevant stakeholders like the community leaders, chiefs ,youth organizations,and other agencies to ensure safety of residence.
He said,” focus areas, will strengthen intelligence gatherings,work with the community CDCs, police policing with the communities,meetings ,seminars with members of the public to know areas of challenge to tackle,”the new C.P summed up.
He also harped on zero tolerance for indiscipline, police corruption, extortion, as those found culpable would be decisively dealt with.even as he posited that he would curb cultism, combate oil theft,with the help of the DSS, and security to tackle oil bunkery.
On the areas of land grabing, the CP said it would be looked into to ensure that no nobody’s right is infringed upon.
He also stressed the need for the enforcement of all vehicles regulations,especially those using tinted vehicles,while protection of human rights violation would not be tolerated.
He warnd against police officers from indulging in politics to desist forthwith or face the wrath of tha command.
He opined that his admninstration would be guided with integrity and collaboration, while calling for press partnership with the police in order to project the activities and programmes of the police.
