The Rivers state All progressive congress ( APC) has set up a 9- man panel of inquiry to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the attack on the APC secretariat and the Rivers state House of Assembly Complex
This was disclosed by the state party chairman of the All progressive congress APC at a media briefing with journalists at the party secretariat Aba) Port Harcourt Express Way, on December 9,2024.
The panel of the inquiry which is to be chaired by Barr Kelechi Nworgu also has Barr Bathel Samson as secretary. The panel is charged to submit it’s findings within one month for a legal action against any person found culpable in the bombing that occurred in October 5,2023.
Other members of the panel include, Barr. Darlington Dike,Barr. Rex Nworgu, Hon.Abibo Tammy Bereniye,Dr. Theresa Chima, Dr Eunice Gam, Prince A Obene and Amb. Vincent Gbosi.
Briefing Journalists at the inaugural meeting of the All progressive congress party secretariat, following it’s congress a week ago, APC State chairman, Chief Hon Tony Okocha explained the necessity of the panel, saying that the attack on the APC secretariat was not deemed significant enough to be included in the state government’s investigation which was set up by Governor Siminalayi fubara.
Okocha recalled how the APC had challenged the local government council elections in court, following which the court issued a judgement.
Tony allegedly accused the Governor of sending a team of thugs to the Rivers state independent electoral Commission RSIEC office.
Okocha claimed that Governor Siminalayi fubara had attempted to oversee the election with his own security.
According to Okocha, the bombing of the APC secretariat hours before the local government council elections on October 5,2024, noting that when the police came to investigate, they discovered an unexplosive device ( IED) at the scene.
Chief Okocha asserted that when Governor fubara formed his panel to investigate the burning of the local government secretariat ought to have been included in studying the demolition of the Rivers state House of Assembly, positing that it was part of a series of actions orchestrated to undermine the APC.
The Rivers APC chairman further stated that the APC that the APC would not be silenced and vowed to press forward and with their own panel of inquiry, even as he opined, that ” nobody is above the law” Okocha summed up.
