Federal University of Sports, Nsulu Games Village, Abia State.
First, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the esteemed Senator Col. Austin Akobundu (Rtd) for the successful first reading of his landmark bill in the Red Chambers of the National Assembly. As a former lawmaker, I fully appreciate the dedication , industry and effort required to advance a draft to this stage of legislation. It’s no small feat—well done, sir.
I am genuinely pleased to see how seriously some of Abia’s lawmakers are working to secure federal institutions for our state. This leads me to a clear conclusion: Abia State needs a federal university, period.
Given Senator Akobundu’s background as a former military colonel and seasoned political figure, there is no doubt he possesses the capability to rally support among his Senate colleagues to bring this bill to fruition.
However, I must express my concern just like a stated in a recent proposal by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives for a Federal University of Languages Aba. I argue that Abia requires a Conventional federal university that offers a broad range of courses, rather than one limited in scope by specific legislation.
I wonder if the President would be willing to approve two bills for the establishment of two federal universities in Abia within the next two years, should both advance beyond3rx reading.
Even if the President is generous enough to endorse both, Abia would still be in deficit of a conventional university that allows our children to pursue a variety of academic disciplines—not just languages or sports which are also very good ..
I urge our legislators at the National Assembly to explore opportunities for synergy and collaboration to achieve greater benefits for the people of Abia.
Imagine a Federal University encompassing languages, sports, arts, and sciences in Abia State; it would be a tremendous asset.
Once again, congratulations to Senator Austin Akobundu on this significant achievement. Jisike
