The Rivers State Government of Siminalayi fubara has allegedly Sponsored hoodlums to bomb the All progressive congress, APC, secretariat at Aba- Port Harcourt expressway on the early hour of Saturday October 5,2024, between the 3-30am on the fateful day.
The State APC caretaker publicity Committee, Chief Chibuike Ikenga stated this in an interview with Journalists at the Apc party secretariat along Aba Port Harcourt expressway to ascertain the level of destruction of the party office by Governor Sim fubara’s Sponsored hoodlums.
According to APC publicity Secretary, ” we are the target, Apc is under attack by the government of Rivers state Sponsored hoodlums, ” Ikenga declared.
While calling for proper investigation to unravel the culprits, Ikenga stressed the need for peace in the state.
He questioned,” how do we achieve peace is to obey court orders and obey the rule of law, that is the only way we can have peace. No tranquility and of course you know that there is a relationship or correlation between peaceful coexistence and development, particularly as it affects good governance, ” Ikenga summed up.
Also speaking, former Member, House of Representatives,Rt. Hon. Chizom Promise Dike described the attack on Apc Secretariat as needles, because, according to Hon. Dike, APC as a party made it very clear that they are not participating in the local government council elections of October 5,2024, and thus APC shouldn’t have been seen as a hindrance to the election.
His words,” because we have said we are not going to participate in the election, why destroy or come to destroy the APC party secretariat. What kind of act is that, I don’t really understand why this should be happening in RIvers state”, Chizom said.
He noted that the activities and antecedents of APC in RIvers state has always been peaceful demonstrations, press conferences, pointing out that no one incident that was linked to APC or attack on lives and properties of Rivers people, adding that APC believes and would continue to preach peace.
Hon. Chizom opined that, that act of coming to destroy APC secretariat is going beyond what it should be, hence, he condemned the act in totality.
He used the opportunity to implore the state security agencies to ensure that proper investigations are carried out and those linked to the attack should be brought to book and face the wrath of the law. That is our position as a party,” Chizom maintained.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, All progressive congress APC in RIvers state, Chief Hon Tony Okocha affirmed that APC is under attack in RIvers state, describing the attack as very unnecessary and uncalled for.
Tony made the assertion while conducting Journalists round the APC state secretariat to ascertain the level of damage of the party secretariat at Aba-Port Harcourt expressway.
Okocha reiterated that there is a court judgment, and not court order.
Okocha said,” it is not an exparty, that is a court order in a matter that passed through processes and judgement was reached and in that judgment, the court was clear that elections slated for October 5,2024 did not comply with the constitution and the laws of the state and to that extent,it is detailed illegal”. Tony said.
Okocha further stated that the same judgement barred the police, DSS from participating.
The APC State Chairman regrets that at 3:30 am, he was notified that the APC party secretariat has been attached with explosives, adding that it was the 2nd attempt by the Government of Siminalayi fubara to bring down the party secretariat, using his alleged Sponsored hoodlums in RIvers state.
Okocha said “, we want to tell Nigerians that we are under attack, our leaders are chased by their soldiers, that is un uniform soldiers, APC secretariat do not a polling unit to be attached.”Okocha lamented.
He explained that every time there is event in RIvers state, Governor Sim and all his people will see APC as a scapegoat, adding that the essence of taking Journalists round the scene of the attack on their party secretariat is to let Nigerians know that APC and her members are on serious attack and hence the need for federal government to provide them with adequate security in order to keep everybody who is a member of APC in RIvers state safe.
Okocha averred that APC will not take laws into their hands by retaliating, but that APC would implore the federal government and international community to see their plight in RIvers state.
