Chief Mike Enwukwe has stated that the nation has remained in penury because of the display of dishonesty by those in the ruling class.

Enwukwe noted that honesty and sincerity have remained two great virtues lacking in Nigerian leaders, adding that it has hampered the economic growth of the nation.

Enwukwe spoke in Port Harcourt during the burial of his late mother, Mrs Roseline Enwukwe, Rumuodani community, Elelenwo clan, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Enwukwe said: “She was an honest woman, very peaceful and a devout Christian. We should emulate her and never allow her legacies to die.

“Are you not seeing in what is happening in political parties, public offices, ministries, where snake swallow money? Money developing legs? You see people going home with billions of naira, what did they do to merit that thing honestly?

“These are questions that are self-explanatory. Honesty and hard work1 should be the watchword of our leaders. If you are hardworking you are bound to make it even without defrauding the people.

“What we want in this state is brighter light. There is light in Rivers State under Governor Siminalayi Fubara.”

“We want greater light in Rivers State. We already have light in Rivers State all we need now is greater light. Those who do not want this light should dey there dey. We already have light and that light must be.”

However, the former Governor of the state, Sir Dr Peter Odili, condoled with the family of Enwukwe over the demise of their mother, noting that the late woman was an asset to the state.

“We condole with the family over the loss of their mother. She was a great asset to the state, the community and her family. We pray that the family will protect the legacies she left behind and stay united fearing God and living in peace.”
