A Traditional Ruler of Obelle- Ibaa community in Emohua local government area of Rivers state, Chief Chimenu Nkekwu has called on the international community to come to their aid, following the the chieftaincy and cult related crisis that has rendered residents of the area homeless.

Chief Nkekwu made the appeal in an interview with journalists in port Harcourt , on the deplorable situation of Obelle- Ibaa community crisis that has led to incessant killings of people and burning of houses.

According to chief Nkekwu, some people have deserted the community to other neighbouring communities for safety, especially the one that occurred on the 25th July,2019.

Chief Chimenu explained that the situation of the community is so pitiable that killings, raping of women and little girls as as well as burning of houses is the order of the day, adding that the Rivers state government and the federal government of Nigeria are aware of the ugly development and what Obelle-Ibaa community is passing through.

The monarch opined that since then till now, peace has not returned to the community, as successive governments have not shown any interest or done anything to ensure peace in Obelle-Ibaa ( Uvuahu) community.

The traditional ruler regrets that since the period of the crisis in the community till now, no meaningful development had taken place in the community, even as he opined that despite the pitiable situation of the community, multinational and other oil services companies have been drilling oil from the land, without thinking on how to fix back the community, interms of bringing development projects to the community or to care for the people.

The Obelle-Ibaa chief reiterated that the crisis has led to illegal bunkery in which federal forces came killing some of the people who were involved in the illegal bunkery.

The monarch recalled that since the crisis in Obelle-Ibaa, over 2,000.000 indegenes of Obelle-Ibaa have died, regretting that the government of the federal republic of Nigeria has not done something to put a stop to the crisis, hence the appeal to the international community to come for an assistance, especially to meaningfully engage the youths in the area who are roaming about the streets and or creat skills for the youths so that they can be useful to themselves and the society at large.

On the rating of Nigeria generally, the traditional ruler rated the country (Nigeria) very low, stressing that currently, the cost of living in Nigeria is very high, pointing out that 99 percent of the people in the country cannot afford two square meal a day.

He asserts that Nigeria is a country where the leaders oppress the poor and feel as if they were not created by God, Nkekwu summed up.
