The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated food items and relief materials to soku communities to cushion the effects of the present hardship in the society, even as they have been warned against unfair Distribution of the items.
Speaking at the handover ceremony of the palliatives to soku communities on may 20,2024,, member representing Rivers state on the Nddc board, Chief Hon Tony Okocha said that the palliatives and the food items Nddc decided to donate to soku communities was in line with the renewed Hope agenda of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a bid to transform the lives of Nigerians.
The Rivers Nddc representative opined that the 7th governing board of Nddc have today brought food items to the people of soku, while expressing gratitude to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu for using the Nddc to reach out to the people of the region, pointing out that the present Nddc board is interested in putting smiles on the faces of the people.
Okocha used the opportunity to advice the people of soku to ensure that the items were distributed evenly without acrimony or rancour, pointing out that the board would not tolerate to hear that the items were not distributed equitably.
Chief Tony also commended soku communities for their peaceful disposition and their support to the medical team that Nddc sent to the communities during the cholera outbreak in soku communities.
He also charged the people of soku to always support the government of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a way of showings appreciation for all the good things that the president has done for them, even as he reassured the people that Nddc would kick off the construction of the mega solar -powered water facility in the community.
Earlier, chairman,soku council of chiefs, chief opuda orumo, who received the items on behalf of soku communities, thanked the 7th governing board of Nddc for coming to rescue soku communities.
Chief Orumo who described Chief Tony Okocha as Moses of soku said that prior to this time, Hon. Tony had brought medical equipments to soku and even began solar water scheme for the communities, adding that they will remain grateful and continue to commend Okocha for the solar provided for them.
Orumo said that despite all that Tony has brought to the community, he still brought food items and other palliatives to soku communities.
He thanked president Bola Ahmed Tinubu for using Hon. Tony Okocha in Nddc to bring palliatives to the people of soku.
He used the opportunity to appeal to Nddc to look into other projects that needs attention in the area.
Also speaking, liaison soku Nddc, Dr. Christian Otiasah Living stone explained that soku is an ancient community, whose chieftaincy stool was recognized through the recommendation of Hon. Tony Okocha as chief of staff, Government House.
Otiasah commended Tony for bringing multiple projects to soku, noting that prior to the period, soku people never had water, Whil expressing happiness that today it is a thing of the past.
Meanwhile, items donated to soku communities by the Nddc include, 400 bags of Rice, 400 bags of beans,200 cartons of indomie, 198 tubers of yams, 20 cartons of paste, 20 cartons of magi and 20 garlons of groundnut oil and 13 packets of shipers.
Others are, mosquito nets, bags of salt, sugar and 159 bags of Garri among others.
