Even as the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Continues to bemoan the poor outing made by its candidates in this year’s Universities Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Rivers Born Solomon Ojoba has smashed his way to the rank of top scorers, in the UTME by posting an impressive 361 aggragate.
Master Solomon Chukwumuenya Ojobah is a student of Niger Delta Science School (NDSS), Port Harcourt. The wonder boy is said to have been a very exceptional child right from the cradle.
Solomon Chukwumuenya Ojobah has been in and out of competitions. Recently, he came out top 10 at the recently concluded Rivers Stste Rotary Einstein Science Challenge at Port Harcourt.
At Junior Secondary level, he was already attempting WAEC questions. In his mock JAMB, he scored 303 and was so mad at himself. He assured his parents that he will hit harder and will do better. Here he is with 361 out of 400 questions in JAMB!
According to his father, Dr. Lucky Ojobah, a lecturer at Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, “As he checked his result few days ago, he exclaimed “JESUS” and everybody at home thought he was hurt, only for him to break the news of his score”.
Speaking further the proud father said, ” I am an indigene of Omoku, the headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State. I am married to Mrs. Abinami L. Ojobah for 19 unfettered years, and our marriage is blessed with 3 children – Ijeoma (Freda), Chukwumuenya (Solomon) and Chukwulaka (Rex).
My wife and I have always made reading for my children a hobby. Books are virtually their best games at leisure and as their academic tool.
For Solomon, no books in my shelf that he has not read, even up to my engineering textbooks.
When he is eating, he could spend an hour eating and reading at the same time. This is why it is practically impossible for him to mold eba with his hand, as he will prefer fork, so he could be flipping pages of books. Although we have not been comfortable with his style of reading up to literatures, even as a science student. Rather than concentrate only in his subject areas, he reads uncontrollably as he lies down to sleep every night. Solomon keeps soaring academically, beating our thoughts.
I am so proud of him. He intends to study Aeronautical Engineering, with Mechatronics or Robotics as alternative courses”.
Also Speaking on the accomplishment a top educationist in the state who prefferd anonymity urged the Rivers State governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara to ensure that the rare feat achieved by Solomon Chukwumuenya Ojobah must not go unrewarded as an incentive to students of Rivers origin to work hard in their academics.
According to the educationist, “Even the 19-year old Mmesoma Ejikeme who was baptized with varying degrees of scholarships by good-spirited individuals, never had this level of score in her alleged JAMB result that her name made news all over the place. Could it be that there are certain tribes who care more about the education of their people? The Rivers State government must recognize youbg boy for positively putting Rivers State in the intellectual map of Nigeria with this distinguished accomplishment”.
